June 2012 Edition.

June 2012 edition

The appointment of Roy Hodgson as England Soccer manager was regrettably greeted with criticism from some sources, simply because during his playing career he had played for Berea Park in the South African NFL during the days of civilised rule in South Africa.

There can be little doubt that Roy Hodgson knew what he was doing when he moved to South Africa in 1973. He is after all an intelligent man fluent in three languages (compare this to his main competitor for the England appointment, who openly admitted that he was incapable of using a computer or even sending a text message!!!). He, like most other emigrants from Britain and elsewhere in the West at the time, was expressing his solidarity with his South African kith and kin who were unfairly being pilloried by the international “politically correct” brigade. By so doing he knew that he would be placed on the United Nation’s sporting “blacklist”, so his bravery in this principled stance must therefore continue to be praised.

There have been others who have criticized Roy Hodgson for including too many “plastic Brits” (or perhaps “plastic Englishmen” would be a more accurate term) in his squad for the recent Euro 2012 Competition, but it should be remembered in this regard that he basically inherited the side from the previous foreign “England” managers. Furthermore, he courageously included John Terry in his team, in spite of the fact that he too had been subjected to an unjustified hate-campaign emanating from the “politically correct” brigade.

What counts is what Roy Hodgson’s side will look like after he has been in the job for a few years – most notably for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. A former “plastic Brit” in the England side, John Barnes, in a piece of praiseworthy honesty, admitted that it was the prestige of playing in international competitions which motivated him to don the England shirt, rather than pride in the country which he was representing. He was of course simply stating a truism by this frank revelation. Only if the DNA of the country which one represents has been in one’s genes for several generations can one have true pride and motivation when playing international sport. With this in mind is it simply a coincidence that the only two “England” players to miss spot-kicks in the quarter-final of Euro 2012 against Italy were those who could be termed “plastic Brits”?

Of course we would far prefer to see a united GB & NI Soccer team competing in international competitions such as the Euros and the World Cup – just as is going to be the case at the forthcoming Olympics. All the time that the four component countries of the UK compete separately then we wish them all well of course - but in England’s case, all the time that a brave and principled man such as Roy Hodgson is in charge, our support is perhaps even stronger.

The Springbok Club organised a party to view the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant down the Thames earlier this month. Unfortunately the far larger than expected crowds at this event (evidently the authorities were anticipating around three-quarters of a million people to line the banks of the Thames, but in the event an estimated 2 million turned up!) prevented any good direct viewing. Members of the Springbok Club party therefore had to make do with watching the pageant taking place just a couple of hundred yards away from them on one of the giant screens - but even so the joyous atmosphere and the inspiring Imperial patriotism proved something to behold!

In July and August the Springbok Club will be organizing parties to view the following "free" events taking place at the Olympic Games :-

1)      Wednesday 1st August - The Cycling Time Trials at Hampton Court (Women’s in the morning, men’s in the afternoon).
2)      Saturday 4th August – Mens 20 km Walk.
3)      Sunday 5th August – Women’s Marathon.
4)      Saturday 11th August – Men’s 50 km Walk (morning), Women’s 20 km Walk (afternoon).
5)   Sunday 12th August – Men’s Marathon.

More precise details about rendezvous times and positions will be included in next month’s SCN.

In September it is anticipated that the Hampshire Branch of the Springbok Club will be re-launched, and in October a trip is being planned to see the newly restored Cutty Sark at Greenwich, after which a Trafalgar Day celebration will be staged at one of the near-by nautical-themed pubs.. More precise details of both events will be given in future editions of the SCN.

The Conference/Dinner staged by the Patriotic Forum (a loose coalition of patriotic organisations headed by the Swinton Circle) on 16th June 2012 in order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of that great British patriot and visionary John Enoch Powell proved to be a magnificent success. The Conference stage of proceedings comprised four sections each dealing with one of the four main facets of Enoch Powell's core beliefs: "Was Enoch right about the economy" (led by Mr. Roger Helmer MEP, East Midlands), "Was Enoch right about immigration?" (led by former Conservative parliamentary candidate Mr. Roy Painter), "Was Enoch right about Europe?" (led by Mr. Michael Shrimpton LLB, the prominent barrister and national security consultant), and "Was Enoch right about Ulster and the Union?" (led by Mr. Andrew Hunter, the former Conservative MP for Basingstoke). After a short interlude when patriotic musical entertainment was provided by Mr. Robin Willow, and a special poem written by Mr. Gary Vincent was read, a sumptuous 3-course mean was served including roast beef and Yorkshire pudding - Enoch Powell's favourite meal! Proceedings were completed by a short key-note speech by Major John Browne (the former Conservative MP for Winchester, and good personal friend of Enoch Powell), and by a summing up by current Swinton Circle Chairman Mr. Alan Harvey who reminded everyone of Enoch Powell's famous maxim: "We have nothing to fear but our own self-doubts", and then emphasised Enoch Powell's forthright British Imperial patriotism, and how Britain had built the greatest Empire that the world had ever seen. "We've done it before" he stated confidently, "and we can do it again!". This event therefore both inspired and enthused all those in attendance to re-double their efforts to achieve the ideals for which Enoch Powell stood - the advancement of British freedom, unity and greatness!n?" (led by Mr. Andrew Hunter, the former Conservative MP for Basingstoke). After a short interlude when patriotic musical entertainment was provided by Mr. Robin Willow, a review of Enoch Powell’s career was recounted by Miss Sharon Bowers, and a poem specially composed for the occasion was read by Mr. Gary Vincent, a sumptuous 3-course dinner was served including roast beef and Yorkshire pudding – Enoch Powell’s favourite meal! Proceedings were concluded by a short after-dinner speech by Major John Browne (the former Conservative MP for Winchester, and a good personal friend of Enoch Powell) and by a summing-up by current Swinton Circle Chairman Alan Harvey who reminded everybody of Enoch Powell’s famous maxim: “We have nothing to fear but our own self-doubts”, and then emphasised Enoch Powell’s forthright British Imperial patriotism, and how Britain had built the greatest Empire that the world had ever seen. “We’ve done it before” he stated confidently “and we can do it again!”. New Britain will be celebrating Canada’s National Day in both London and York this year.

On Saturday 30th June, the eve of Canada’s National Day, at 10.00 hrs, a 20 minute ceremony to sing the Canadian National Anthem and lay a wreath on the grave of Major-General James Wolfe in the historic church of St.Alfege Church, Greenwich will take place. The church is in the centre of Greenwich - take the Docklands Light Railway to Cutty Sark Station. General Wolfe was responsible for winning the Battle of Quebec in 1759 which resulted in Canada becoming part of the British Empire. At 15.00 hrs a Canadian Festival will take place in St.Sepulchre Church, Holborn Viaduct (opposite the Old Bailey) at which a special message from the Canadian High Commissioner will be read out.

On Sunday 1st July, Canada’s National Day, a reception will be held at 15.00 hrs in the medieval 14th century Merchant Taylors’ Hall, York. The reception will be attended by the Lord Mayor of York accompanied by the Lady Mayoress, the Sheriff and his lady. A special message from the Canadian High Commissioner will be read out.

Those taking part in both ceremonies will be invited to sign messages of friendship to the Canadian Prime Minister and the Canadian High Commissioner. These events will strengthen the links between Canada and the United Kingdom, so all are invited to attend to show support for Canada as an important part of the Commonwealth.

As mentioned in last month’s SCN, the Olympic Torch Relay has generated massive public interest and enthusiasm wherever it has traveled throughout the British Isles. It seems to be acting as a catalyst for a great nation rejuvenating itself and re-discovering its self-confidence. Add to this the far higher than expected applications for Olympic tickets and it can be seen that practically the entire British nation is gearing itself up for the greatest manifestation of national glory that the country has seen since VE night!

We say only “practically” the entire nation because alas there have been a few kill-joys and anti-national elements who have campaigned against the 2012 Games being held in London – using patently obvious flawed opinion polls in order to try to justify their jaundiced unpatriotic views. There has even been a case of a minor political party which tries to drape itself in the Union Flag advocating that the 2012 Olympics should be transferred to Athens. By so doing this pathetic little party not only shows itself to be hypocritical, but also Phoney with a capital “P”!

Thankfully the phenomenal public response to the Torch Relay and the fantastically high ticket-sales mean that this sickly bunch of traitors and malcontents are a very, very small minority. The vast bulk of the British population are filled with growing excitement for the forthcoming Olympic spectacles and the legacy which lies beyond. We are witnessing a great nation once again arising from its slumbers!

Just 20 years ago, the Indian rhinoceros - an endangered species - was completely wiped out of Manas National Park in north-east India by poachers.

This Sunday the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW ) and its local partners, the Wildlife Trust of India, will release two Indian rhinos into the now-protected Manas National Park. Sunday's release will be a crucial step towards permanently returning Indian rhinos to Manas once again.

You can help animals like Raja and Maju, the two young rhinos who will be released on Sunday.

Raja and Maju came to IFAW's Wildlife Rescue Center as babies, both orphaned, and both in poor condition. After round-the-clock care and attention, they both began improving.

Now, just three years later, they are ready to taste freedom - and Manas is the perfect new home for them.

In addition to being a protected national park, Manas is a United Nations World Heritage site, and it's ideal habitat for Indian rhinos. After their heartbreaking start in life, these two young rhinos deserve a perfect home in the wild.

The most fascinating thing about rhinos is that, when you're around them, you really get the sense of their prehistoric nature. They're a living and breathing link to the past, and that's why it's so important that we protect rhinos and ensure they survive and prosper.

To find out more about the work of the IFAW and how you can help them give animals such as Raja and Maju a second chance in life visit their web-site at :-

So the “newly crowned head” of Australia's Republic Movement David Morris wants “this country to be fully independent" (nine-news 11/3/12).

Surely Mr. Morris should be aware that Australia is already a totally independent nation, otherwise how else could the people – not the British parliament or The Queen - have decided at referendum whether to retain our system of constitutional monarchy or opt for a republic. The decision was that of the people and the people alone.

Surely before making rash and incorrect statements, the republican movement – after thirteen years of protest since the referendum - should inform the ‘people’ of the actual model they propose and how they intend to match the existing checks and balances, inherent within our existing constitution, which protect the people from the excesses of politicians?

The narrative gives the reader an overview of the history of the White man in southern Africa with detailed emphasis on the Rhodesian story through the life and times of PK van der Byl, one of the major players in a political drama that ended in the accession to power of Robert Mugabe under the auspices of the British government. By his very nature PK was controversial and confrontational. This account is likely to give offence to some because it portrays him as bluntly as he was in real life. Much can be contested about PK van der Byl but few will dispute he was an extremely colourful character with a devilish sense of humour. This memoir covers his life with a full flourish while doing nothing to detract from the seriousness of the international political and military conflict in which he was engaged. The reader will glean new information on a highly controversial subject and emerge with a more sympathetic understanding of what PK van der Byl and his colleagues did and strove for. The human tragedy that has followed the removal from power of Ian Smith and his Rhodesian Front party will almost certainly force the reader to deal with some uncomfortable conclusions, of value to anyone sincere about grappling with the volatile and deeply troubling challenges that confront all Africans today.

No.163:  Mr. PAUL HAWKINS of Durban

Paul Hawkins was the son of the great Tom Hawkins, the former Congo mercenary and Conservative Party and Patriotic Forum activist in Durban during the 1980s. Sadly Tom died about a decade ago, but we were wondering whether anybody knows what has become of his son Paul, who was also a supporter of both the Conservative Party of S.A. and the Patriotic Forum, as well as also being involved in the family business, the “Lock & Key Cabin” which operated from premises in the Umbilo Road.

Francis Bennion has recently added a most revealing article by Derek Humphrey to his web-site, which we believe will be of great interest to our readers. It first featured in the UK Sunday Times back in 1972. It can be accessed at :-

I wish Enoch Powell's health had matched Manny Shinwell's. He would still be alive and verbally kicking against the establishment. My basic differences with him were over his being anti-American and "soft on Communism" - although, ironically, he did predict the breakup of the Soviet Union.
Had we listened to him, we would have been spared inflation, mass immigration, devolution, rule from Brussels, multi-culturalism and Political Correctness. On the day that Heath sacked Powell, the Conservative Party should have sacked Heath.

That party has had, of course, the magic ability to get things wrong, choosing Balfour over Jo Chamberlain, Neville Chamberlain over Churchill, Heath over Powell, Major over Redwood, and Cameron over Davis. That is one reason why I have supported UKIP since its inception.

Yours etc.,

M. Taylor, London, U.K.

Readers with good memories will remember the troubles which we encountered from a Mr. Allan Robertson way back in 2008. Robertson, the erstwhile Organiser of the Swinton Circle, tried to stage a coup to takeover the organization, a pathetic act of betrayal which predictably ended in failure. At a subsequent EGM of the Swinton Circle he and two sidekicks were expelled from the organization for gross misconduct, and it was subsequently revealed that he had secret long-standing neo-fascist connections, and that the aim of his failed coup was apparently to change the orientation of the Swinton Circle radically from being a Conservative-supporting organization to becoming a neo-fascist front.

Robertson’s expulsion should have been the end of the matter, but alas ever since he seems to have been living in denial, staging infrequent meetings attended by a handful of extremists and cranks using the former name of “The London Swinton Circle” – mainly featuring non-entities as guest speakers, at least one being a holocaust-denier.

His continuing illegal use of the Swinton Circle name – albeit with a prefix – has predictably caused some confusion, and the fear is that the official Swinton Circle may become falsely associated with neo-fascism as a result. We have explored the possibility of taking legal action against Mr. Robertson for his illegal use of the Swinton Circle name, but alas his known limited means makes this financially unviable. Unfortunatelu his trouble-making activities seem to have increased as the Swinton Circle has grown in size and influence, his latest puerile ploy being to have the Swinton Circle’s FaceBook page removed (something which we anticipate will be rectified soon).

If Mr. Robertson was to choose some different name for his new group then of course we would have no further interest in him whatsoever, but all the time he continues to cause confusion by falsely implying that he is still a member of the Swinton Circle then we must continue to strive to have him stopped.

If any reader can provide us with any further information about this wretched trouble-maker or any details about his ongoing activities, then we would be most grateful and can assure everyone that such information will be treated with the utmost confidence.
