June 2008 Edition.

SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER

June 2008 edition

Although the recent rescinding of the honorary Knighthood given to the odious Robert Mugabe was of course to be welcomed, a far more fundamental matter remains unexplained - namely why was this murderous creature ever given this award in the first place?

What makes this obscenity even more unbelievable is that it was bestowed not by a left-wing Labour government, but by the so-called Conservative government of John Major! The more that is revealed about Major's administration the more unsatisfactory it turns out to have been - but surely there can have been no greater grounds for severe criticism than the bestowing of this honour to such a revolting terrorist tyrant. It is not as if Mugabe crimes were unknown at the time (the early 1990s), after all ZANU-PF only came to power via terrorist atrocities committed against the White population of Rhodesia during the 1960s and 70s (who can forget the satanic Elim Mission massacre committed directly by Mugabe's ZANLA terrorist vermin?), and then launched an even more genocidal campaign against the Matabele spearheaded by the notorious 5th Brigade during the early 1980s.

But has Mugabe and his terrorist regime still been universally condemned? The following ominous report has recently been forwarded to us by a supporter still based in ANC-ruled South Africa :-

"Tsvangirai's hopes that leaders might issue a hard-hitting statement and even put pressure on Mugabe to stand down were dealt a blow when
President Thabo Mbeki of regional power South Africa stopped over in Harare on his way to Lusaka. After his first face-to-face talks with Mugabe since the elections, Mbeki seemingly ignored pleas for outside pressure to be levied upon the veteran Zimbabwean strongman and suggested things be allowed to run their course. 'There is no crisis in Zimbabwe,' he told journalists. 'The body authorised to release the results is the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, let's wait for them to announce the results'."

We've said it once and we'll say it again - the ZANU-PF regime in Zimbabwe and the ANC regime in South Africa are like two peas in the same pod. Both regimes only came to power through terrorist intimidation, both have proved to be tyrannical and murderous once ensconced in power - and both support each other on the international arena.

So why does the outside world continue to take a benevolent attitude towards ANC ruled South Africa (most obscenely by continuing to fete the convicted ANC terrorist Mandela) whilst at the same time seemingly waking up to the true horrors of ZANU-PF ruled Zimbabwe? To be candidly frank we haven't got a clue - but perhaps we shouldn't refer to the outside world as a whole in this regard but only to their leaders, for more and more ordinary people seem to be voicing their objections to the continuing fawning over the aforementioned Mandela. Perhaps Gordon Brown's nauseating self-abasement in this regard may be one of the key reasons for his sudden and catastrophic fall in the opinion polls!

PATRIOTIC FORUM EMPIRE DAY CELEBRATION BUFFET

The Springbok Club/Empire Loyalist Club joined forces with the London Swinton Circle under the banner of the Patriotic Forum in order to stage its annual Empire Day celebrations in May. The guest speaker was Mr. Michael Brufal de Melgarejo, the 11th Marques de Lendinez, who for the past 15 years he has been a Director of the Friends of Gibraltar Heritage Society. His address focused on the political developments in Gibraltar, its huge economic progress and the threats which this progress poses to its traditional character, but he also gave an enthusiastic report on the recent activities of both the Friends of Gibraltar Heritage Society and the Rock-based Gibraltar Heritage Trust. Most importantly, however, he told how the Royal Marines were to be granted the Freedom of Gibraltar in February 2009 when a memorial to the Royal Marines will be erected. The Springbok Club/ELC is provisionally planning to organise a trip to the Rock in February of next year (precise dates are still to be announced) in order to witness these celebrations. If any supporter is keen to join us for this visit then please e-mail us at: springbok@falklands.org or 'phone: 07711-188430.

------------------------------------------------------------------

SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC KENT BRANCH TRIP

Earlier during June the Kent Branch of the Springbok Club/ELC staged a trip to the Royal Engineers' Museum in Gillingham where a special "Soldiers of the Queen" event was being staged. The highlight of this visit was being able to see a demonstration of authentic Victorian era military drill and weapons display presented by "The Diehards" military re-enactment society - one of whose prominent members, Graham Gillmore (ex RLI and SADF), is a long-standing member and supporter of the Springbok Club. There was a very encouraging turnout of supporters at this event (including several from outside the county), and a number of potentially good new contacts were also made as a result.

------------------------------------------------------------------

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC EVENTS

The London Branch of the Springbok Club/ELC will be staging a trip to see the finish of this year's Doggett's Coat and Badge Race on the Thames on Tuesday 22nd July. This historic race will start at 13.00 hrs, and is anticipated to finish at Chelsea at approximately 13.25 hrs. All those who wish to join the SC/ELC party are therefore asked to assemble on the Thames Embankment in front of the Chelsea Hospital near to Cadogan Pier between 12.30 hrs and 13.00 hrs. As this event will take place on the same day as the next London Swinton Circle meeting (see "London Swinton Circle News" column) this therefore provides an ideal opportunity for a special day out in London for supporters from elsewhere in the country, who will therefore be able to attend both activities in the one day.

The Springbok Club/ELC's annual Rhodes & Founders Day celebration buffet will be held rather belatedly in August this year. The guest speaker is anticipated to be a prominent ex-Rhodesian, and full details will be given in next month's SCN.

In September the Springbok Club/ELC will be staging a trip to Carmarthen in order to lay a wreath at the monument to Sir Thomas Picton ("Wellington's Welsh General") on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of this great man's birth. This will be the first of what is hoped to be an annual SC/ELC event honouring great Imperial heroes who have statues and monuments in their honour around the UK. All those who are interested in participating in this forthcoming event in Carmarthen should e-mail us at: springbok@falklands.org or 'phone: 07711-188430.

In November the Springbok Club/ELC will be holding its annual UDI Day celebrations, at which a prominent Rhodesian soldier who fought in the Bush War against Terrorism is anticipated to be guest speaker. A number of supporters have however requested that we stage a special dinner for this event again, rather than just a buffet format. We abandoned the formal dinner structure a couple of years ago following some unfortunate problems which were basically caused by lower than anticipated patronage. We have therefore decided only to go ahead with a formal dinner again if we are able to guarantee a sufficient number of attendees. If you would be interested in attending a dinner in November in the central London area then please let us know as soon as possible by e-mailing: springbok@falklands.org or 'phoning: 07711-188430.

------------------------------------------------------------------

SPRINGBBOK CLUB/ELC BRANCH NEWS

A member of the ExCo of the SC/ELC will be visiting Devon in late July when it is hoped to stage an informal get-together of supporters in the county with the view of establishing a branch there. He will also be visiting Belfast during early August, when it is hoped that the Northern Ireland Branch of the organisation can be re-constituted. If anyone is interested in attending either of these events or becoming actively involved in new or existing branches then please 'phone 07711-188430 for more details.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS

The London Swinton Circle were most privileged to welcome Mr. Douglas Carswell MP (the Conservative MP for Harwich) as guest speaker earlier this month. In a wide-ranging speech Mr. Carswell focused on the EU, law and order, education, reform of the political system, the future of the Union and the future of the BBC. He stated that he favoured withdrawal from the EU, a development which seems far more possible now in the light of the rejection of the Lisbon Treaty by the citizens of the Republic of Ireland. He also emphasised how he believes in more direct involvement in the appointment of chief police officers and judges and the running of schools, and also favours the abolition of the BBC licence fee.

Details of the next most important London Swinton Circle meeting are as follows :-

Date : Tuesday 22nd July 2008

Time : 19.00 hrs

Venue : The Counting House (the upstairs function room), 50 Cornhill, London EC3 (nearest underground station: Bank - leave via Exit 5)

Guest speakers : Commander John Muxworthy RN (Chief Executive Officer of the United Kingdom National Defence Association) and Col. Bob Stewart DSO (of Balkans War fame).

On 3rd September the London Swinton Circle will be welcoming Dr. J. Hazlett Lynch, the Director of the pro-British anti-terrorist organisation the West Tyrone Voice as guest speaker. Further details will be given in future issues of the SCN.

NEW BRITAIN NEWS

Earlier this month New Britain staged a highly professional "Keep the United Kingdom United Pageant" in the City of London. At this event Gary Griffiths represented Wales by singing a number of traditional Welsh folk ballads, Sir Teddy Taylor represented Scotland by giving a most inspiring cameo talk, Clare Presland represented England by singing a selection of English songs, and Beryl Nesbitt represented Northern Ireland by reciting a number of Ulster poems. The highlight of the event, however, was the entrance of Britannia (played by Jeanette Nathan) whilst the audience sang Rule Britannia - before signing a Loyalty Scroll which was subsequently presented at Buckingham Palace.

On Canada's National Day, Tuesday 1st July, New Britain will be staging a special event in Greenwich in order to celebrate the occasion. All those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich at 14.30 hrs, and then to process to St. Alfege Church where a wreath will be laid on the grave of Gen. James Wolfe in the church at 15.00 hrs. The Canadian National Anthem will then we sung, and everyone present will be asked to sign a message of friendship to the Canadian Prime Minister.

On Saturday 12th July the National Chairman of New Britain, Mr. Dennis Delderfield, will be visiting Belfast. He will be laying a wreath in honour of Ulster's dead at the war memorial in front of Belfast City Hall, following which he will witness and support the annual Belfast parade of the Loyal Orange Order in order to commemorate the 318th anniversary of the victory of King William III at the Battle of the Boyne. After this he intends to meet a number of prominent Ulster politicians (Catholic as well as Protestant) who support the Union.

On Saturday 26th July Mr. Delderfield will be visiting Plymouth in order to take part in his now annual challenge bowls match against the Lord Mayor of Plymouth in order to celebrate the anniversary of Sir Francis Drake's defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588.

WORLD CUP WILLIES

In this new series we report on the chaotic preparations for the 2010 Soccer World Cup Finals which are due to take place in South Africa. This first report has been sent to us by Jan Geelvink :-

"The latest African Response poll reveals that 67% agree that the country will be ready by 2010. That's a 6% drop from the previous month's measurement. This dip was anticipated given the recent negativity related to power cuts experienced throughout the country. It's been an important week for the 2010 Local Organising Committee which has announced a number of new initiatives. This after the Director-General of the 2010 World Cup Government Unit, Joe Phaahla, admitted that some host cities are running out of time to meet deadlines agreed upon with FIFA. Phaahla has singled out Cape Town and Port Elizabeth as problem areas."

------------------------------------------------------------------

A BLACK AFRICAN'S VIEWPOINT

We have recently obtained this most eye-opening item written by Mukui Waruiru of the African Conservative Forum, which we received from Jan Lamprecht of AfricanCrisis:-

"Reports that I received from two individuals based in Harare indicate that the MDC leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, won the elections in Zimbabwe by such a large margin, that it is proving very difficult for Mugabe to rig himself back to power. Mugabe is already illegally in power, having lost the 2002 election, but by a narrower margin than he lost this time. In 2002, some of Mugabe's more honest supporters in Africa conceded that although he lost the election, he received at least 45% of the vote, which was close enough to allow manipulation of the results to manufacture a narrow victory. But this time, reports I am getting from Harare indicate that Mugabe could not have gotten more than 25% of the vote. Mugabe must not be allowed to steal the election this time.

"Tony Blair failed the Zimbabwean people from 2000 to 2007, by refusing to take real action to help them in their democratic struggle. Those of us opposing Mugabe all over Africa, are hoping that Gordon Brown will prove to be a tougher leader. I have some suggestions for Western statesmen and diplomats, on how to bring about a peaceful transition in Zimbabwe.

"1. The West should now stop delegating responsibility for the Zimbabwean issue solely to the SADC and the African Union. The SADC and the AU have failed to act over the last 8 years, and it is time that the Zimbabwe issue is internationalized. Just as the political crisis in Burma in 2007 was not seen as an East Asian issue, and the Iranian nuclear debate isn't just seen as a Middle Eastern issue, the crisis in Zimbabwe should no longer be seen as simply an African issue. The lives of millions of Zimbabweans are at stake, and the crisis in Zimbabwe endangers more lives than the disputes over Burma and Iran. Britain or the US should initiate discussion on the political crisis in Zimbabwe before the UN Security Council.

"2. The first order of business should be to protect the Zimbabwean people from violence from Mugabe's security forces, should the people decide to protest the theft of the election. The US and the EU should make it absolutely clear, that any commander of the Zimbabwean security forces who gives orders for the shooting of protesters, will be indicted before the international criminal court. Also, every individual policeman or soldier in Zimbabwe who obeys an order to shoot protesters, should be held personally liable for his criminal act, and will be punished in an international court.

"3. The West should seek dialogue with the many people in Africa who want Mugabe out of power, and not just limit their contacts to African Presidents. In such a dialogue, a common approach can be arrived at, that can ensure that Mugabe is eased out of power without bloodshed (if that is possible).

"4. I generally uphold the principle of non-violence, but this time, an exception can be made to that principle. Mugabe has been allowed to hold office illegally over the past 6 years, and he absolutely cannot be allowed to stay in office illegally for another 5 years. The current army commander has said that he will not accept an opposition victory in the election. What should be done about that blatant disregard for the rule of law? It is time to train a new army for Zimbabwe, from among the 4 million Zimbabweans who are living outside the country. The new democratic army can remove Mugabe from the office he is illegally holding, and restore the rule of law in Zimbabwe.

"Are you listening Mr. Gordon Brown, Mr. David Miliband, Mr. Mark Malloch Brown, Ms. Condoleeza Rice, and Ms. Jendayi Frazer?

"Britain and America helped Mugabe to come to power in 1980, when they forced the democratically elected Prime Minister, Abel Muzorewa, to hand over power to a self-described Marxist who never hid his contempt for democracy. Is it too much to ask them to help clean up the mess which they helped to create?"

"BETRAYAL IN HIGH PLACES" by James Mackay.

271 pages, some illustrations. Soft-back £5.00 including p&p. (r.r.p. £10.00)

The compelling story of what really happened in a defeated Japan following the end of World War II. Merchant seaman James Mackay, whilst travelling in the east, started to hear stories of massacres and other atrocities committed by Japanese forces, not just against enemy troops, but against innocent civilian populations. His subsequent investigations revealed reluctance amongst Allied governments to discuss these incidents that seemed to amount almost to a cover-up. Why would the Allies want to overlook the crimes of a former enemy, especially when the leadership of another former enemy was being liquidated at Nuremburg? Using his own research, as well as material prepared by Australian Army war crimes investigator Capt. J.G. Goodwin, Mackay exposes the cover-up and names the guilty. Not only were the Japanese keen to sweep the past under the carpet, but the US government of the time also had its own reasons for preserving the political and industrial elite in Japan. A provocative book, which calls into question the morality of US policy towards Japan after WWII.

Payment can be made by credit or debit card. To order on line, log onto www.paypal.com and enter postmaster@gcartwright.demon.co.uk as payment destination.

Elizabeth Nel served as Winston Churchill’s personal secretary during World War II. The vivid and human details of her experiences, of her impressions and memories of the irascible and loveable war hero, take up the story of Churchill’s life at No. 10 where the BBC’s impressive drama, 'The Gathering Storm', leaves off — when Churchill took over the reins of Government at the outset of the war. Finally, the author, Elizabeth Nel, at 90 years of age and just before she died, looks back across the years.

RECOMMENDED WEB-SITE OF THE MONTH

We have often carried reports about the excellent work being carried out by the Seal-Alert South Africa organisation in the SCN, both to praise their self-sacrificing efforts in rescuing and protecting seals off the South African coast, and in highlighting the satanic slaughter of innocent seals in the so-called "Namibia" (South-West Africa). We haven't previously mentioned their worthy web-site in this column however, a failure which we now rectify. It can be accessed at :-

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

IMMATURING WITH AGE

Sir,

Yes - it is the same Griffin who wrote to you from "Nationalism Today" in 1982 and who is now leader of the BNP. He's led an interesting life, to say the least!

Yours etc.,

Mike Turner, London U.K.

THE NEWS SOUTH AFRICA

Sir,

There are a lot of errors on our daily SABC TV News reports in the evenings. They are quite common. I wonder if this is due to all the Affirmative Action at the SABC? The news reports are run by a bunch of clowns.

In a recent news report on Robert Mugabe's first re-appearance the video of Jacob Zuma appears while the voice of someone else is on. Then when Jacob Zuma finally comes on, it loses the sound half way through and then a picture of a cricketer appears.

Even the television news presenter gives up apologising! It's so damned pathetic and comical. These days, hardly a single television programme can run its entire length without even one embarrassing clown-like incident.

Yours etc.,

Jan Lamprecht, Transvaal, South Africa.

RIGHT ON!

Sir,

I enjoyed reading the editorial of the March 2008 edition of the SCN. All quite right and well said.

KICKING AROUND AN IDEA

Sir,

South Africa, as you all know, are hosting the 2010 Soccer World Cup Finals.

May I suggest that we start now at campaigning and looking at protests, pickets, e-mails, letter writing, slogans etc. in the lead up to the tournament that will be held and hosted in and around South Africa.

Write to governments, to clubs, to sports stars, to organisations that sponsor and support the games etc., highlighting the human rights abuses, the lack of respect for law, no regard for freedom of movement, speech or association, when millions are dying because President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa has no will to support the people of Zimbabwe.

May I suggest that we co-ordinate specific projects, thereby getting greater coverage both locally and internationally. This project can be rolled out city by city, country by country.

For those with expertise in computer technology may I suggest we set up a website to co-ordinate ideas and strategies.

All ideas and suggestions welcome.

Yours etc.,

Albert Weidemann, Yorkshire, U.K.

THE CURSE OF SPRINGBOK

Many readers may recall the problems which we encountered (alas ongoing) from a character named Michael Keith-Smith, who has apparently been engaging in an irrational vendetta campaign against our movement - something which is even more incomprehensible in view of the fact that the individual in question seems to have no Southern African connections whatsoever!

We have not been alone as this character's target however, as he has also apparently been conducting a vendetta campaign against two strangers who run the "Level 9" web-site. So extreme has been his campaign against these unfortunate people that he even tried to initiate a police action against them for "malicious communication". This attempted action against one of them, a Mr. Ed Chilvers, was evidently dismissed out of hand by his local police force, but the other attempted action, against a Mrs. Tracy Williams, resulted in her being ARRESTED (though not charged) by the Greater Manchester Police. Happily we can report that we have recently heard that the Crown Prosecution Service has now contacted Mrs. Williams to tell her that they do not want to pursue the case.

We therefore congratulate Mrs. Williams upon her famous victory against intimidation in this regard, and wish both her and Mr. Chilvers well for the future. All those who would like to know what all the fuss was about should check out the Level 9 web-site at :-
