April 2005 Edition.

SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER

April 2005 edition

There can surely be no greater accolade for bravery than being awarded the Victoria Cross.

The recent announcement that Private Johnson Beharry of the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment has been awarded this medal for conspicuous bravery during the War against Terrorism in Iraq must therefore be greeted with the highest acclamation. Closer examination of the facts, moreover, reveals that Private Beharry displayed not just one, but two separate acts of outstanding courage during the conflict. As General Sir Mike Jackson, Chief of the [Imperial] General Staff, has emphatically stated, there was never any doubt that his VC was richly deserved.

Private Beharry hails from Grenada, yet still he wished to serve in the British Army, and this loyalty of his towards the British nation was categorically confirmed by his gallant acts in saving the lives of so many of his British comrades - actions which of course give the lie to the argument of the "politically correct brigades" that the British Empire was an oppressive institution which was detested by the various subject people.

Private Beharry may not be of the British race, but the extreme valour which he displayed confirms his place in the annals of the most worthy members of our great British Imperial Commonwealth family. How strikingly Private Beharry's bravery compares to the utter hypocrisy of those self-styled "British nationalists" who astonishingly did not even support their own country during the war against the threatening Ba'athist regime in Iraq. Although a native of Grenada, Private Beharry displayed more British patriotism in his little finger than all these so-called "British nationalists" put together!

SPRINGBOK CLUB BRANCH ACTIVITY

The London Branch of the Springbok Club staged a trip to see the finish of the 151st University Boat Race at Mortlake on 27th March. A goodly contingent of supporters attended this event (which was won by Oxford by 2 lengths) before adjourning to a near-by hostelry in order to enjoy an informal outdoors braai. At this gathering contacts were also made with visiting members of the South African rowing fraternity, who expressed great interest in the activities of the Springbok Club.

The Kent Branch of the Springbok Club organised a visit to the Royal Engineers Museum in Gillingham on 2nd April in order to partake in a special weekend's activity relating to the Zulu Wars. As well as witnessing some of the more specific events staged regarding the Zulu Wars, members also toured the main R.E. Museum itself, which proved to be highly impressive.

------------------------------------------------------------------

SPRINGBOK CLUB TRIP TO THE BRITISH EMPIRE & COMMONWEALTH MUSEUM

The Springbok Club will be staging a visit to the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum in Bristol on Sunday 10th April. The Museum is situated in the front courtyard of Bristol Temple Meads Railway Station, which means that travel from London (Paddington) will be very easy. Supporters should try to assemble in the main reception area of the Museum between 12.00 noon and 12.30 hrs, which means that those travelling from London should aim to catch the 10.07 hrs train from Paddington Station, which arrives at Bristol Temple Meads at 11.59 hrs. A group discount admission charge of only £5.00 per head has been arranged for this visit, which of course should be paid to the Museum on the day. We are also most honoured to be able to announce that the Director of the Museum has agreed to meet the party and to give a conducted tour around some of the exhibits of more specific interest. Although there is no necessity to book in advance, it would be helpful to gauge numbers if those wishing to attend could confirm their intentions in advance by e-mailing : springbok@falklands.org

------------------------------------------------------------------

JOINT MEETING

The Springbok Club will be joining forces with the London Swinton Circle to host a meeting to be addressed by Mr. Philip Benwell MBE, the visiting Chairman of the Australian Monarchist League. Details of this meeting are as follows :-

Date : Tuesday 26th April 2005

Time : 18.45 hrs for 19.00 hrs

Venue : The Crypt, Orange Street Congregational Church, London WC1 (opposite the rear entrance to the National Portrait Gallery)

Mr. Benwell has proved to be a very popular speaker in the past. A strong advocate of closer links between the "core" Commonwealth countries (which he terms the "Commonwealth Realms") as an alternative to EU and other regional entrapments, his speech will be along this basic theme.

------------------------------------------------------------------

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB EVENTS

The Springbok Club will be staging a buffet to celebrate Empire Day on Tuesday 24th May in central London, at which a special Guest of Honour will be present. The Northern Ireland Branch of the Springbok Club will also be staging a special meeting to celebrate Empire Day in Enniskillen on Saturday 28th May at which a leading official of the Springbok Club will be guest speaker. Fuller details will be given in next month's SCN.

In October the Springbok Club will be organising a delegation to visit Gibraltar in order to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. It is planned to stage a wreath-laying ceremony at the Trafalgar Cemetery during the day of Friday 21st October, to be followed by two events being organised by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust - a Trafalgar Day Dinner during the evening of Friday 21st October and a trip to Cape Trafalgar on Saturday 22nd October. Evidently hotel places on the Rock for this period and vacancies for the two events being staged by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust are filling up fast, so it is therefore suggested that all those who wish to join this visit should make arrangements as soon as possible. For more details please e-mail : springbok@falklands.org

The various south-east branches of the Springbok Club are planning braais during the summer, as well as a trip to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich to see a special exhibition marking the 20th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, and a visit to various venues in London where exhibitions are being staged to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Discovery of the Gunpowder Plot. Again more details will be given in future editions of the SCN.

THE HON. IAN DOUGLAS SMITH

We have recently received the following report concerning the health of the Hon. Ian Douglas Smith :-

"Ian Douglas Smith, Prime Minister of Rhodesia from 1964 to 1979, is making a good recovery in a South African hospital where he underwent scheduled surgery to alleviate some discomfort caused by his hip replacements. He is expected to return home soon. A visitor reports that his memory is as sharp as ever.

"All those wishing to send him a 'Get well' message you should log onto the 'Rhodesia Was Super' posting room at http://216.198.201.39/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=166 press the button 'Post Reply' and follow the instructions."

We of course extend our own very best wishes to the great man for a full and speedy recovery.

ZIMBABWE CONSERVATION TASK FORCE APPEAL

Johnny Rodrigues, Chairman of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, has recently sent us the following important message :-

"During the war days I hit a landmine whilst driving an army truck and was lucky to escape only with a back injury and partial deafness in one ear. I had one back operation several years ago and all was well. 18 months ago, however, I was collecting a drum of diesel which had been donated to us for an anti-poaching patrol; there was nobody to help me lift the drum into my vehicle so I lifted it myself, and in so doing injured my back again.

"Since then I have been finding it more and more difficult to continue with anti-poaching patrols and game relocations because of the constant pain. It has now come to the point where I have to have an operation if I am to continue with my work.

"In order to pay for the operation I am appealing to anyone interested in art to buy one of two original oil paintings. They have been valued at approximately US$5,000 each, but I am looking for the highest bidder. In buying a painting you would not only be greatly helping the wildlife in Zimbabwe, but it would also be a good investment. My wife, Cheryl Rodrigues, is the artist and she paints to raise money for our wildlife fund, so in this case if we can sell a painting any money left over after paying for the operation will go straight into the wildlife fund.

"Details of the paintings:

"1) Lion "Braveheart" original oil on canvas - framed 90cm x 110cm

"2) Leopard "Silent Assassin" original oil on canvas - framed 83cm x 125cm

"There are several more paintings available. If anyone would like to see them please email galorand@mweb.co.zw"

You can access the ZCTF web-site at : www.zctf.mweb.co.zw

CAN YOU HELP?

Sidney Allinson from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, writes as follows :-

"Could anyone tell me anything about the activities of South African pilots and aircraft types during the 1914/15 campaign in German South-West Africa? Also, was the correct term then "South African Air Corps"? Any advice or suggested research sites about the early South African Air Force and other South African units in German South-West Africa would be most appreciated. Thank you."

Anyone who can help Sidney in this regard should contact him direct at : sidneya@shaw.ca

BOYCOTT SOUTH AFRICA 2010 WORLD CUP CAMPAIGN

We have recently received an appeal for support from friends in Germany who are actively organising a campaign to boycott the 2010 Soccer World Cup tournament due to be staged in South Africa. A basic English translation reads as follows :-

"We are trying to locate supporters (especially Germans and other Europeans) who will assist us in a campaign aimed at exposing the Marxist ANC regime in South Africa during the 2006 Soccer World Cup tournament in Germany.

"During the late 1960s the ANC, with the assistance of many naive students, used the same tactics against South Africa. This action ultimately isolated South Africa, and resulted in economic sanctions. As it seemed impossible to sustain, White rule came to an end (combined with the spineless rule of F.W. de Klerk).

"If we succeed with our aims then the current ANC regime will have to face up to the truth and admit that currently a genocide campaign is taking place in South Africa. This has increased to such an extent that there is no longer any division or difference between killing an Afrikaner or an English-speaking person, as long as he or she - or even an infant - is White.

"Africa will be deprived of international funds if this campaign succeeds, and that will put the ANC in a very embarrassing situation among their own voters (most of whom are unemployed and still very deprived) - not to mention the leverage it will provide to our cause.

"Think of the broad concept: depriving the enemy of much needed resources, and then enriching our friends if the tournament is relocated to somewhere in Europe - which in turn can help South Africans to reclaim what is still legally theirs! (During the 1992 Referendum it was common knowledge that the outcome was altered - with assistance from the national cricket team's participation in the semi-final of the Cricket World Cup taking place in Australia at the time.)

"Thus we are again faced with the same workable scenario - though this time the shoe will be on the other foot! We would appreciate all help, suggestions and support in trying to succeed.

"Basic help :-

" * Rallies during 2006, to warn the Western World about potential violence in 2010 aimed at Whites. (Crime statistics speak for themselves).

" * Show-piecing posters of murdered Whites and crime statistics to prove what is actually taking place in South Africa (not the continual denials by the ANC or their manipulation of the state-owned media denying the facts).

" * Spreading e-mails aimed at generating support in various countries to boycott the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa.

" * Lobbying the overseas media to get the truth of what is really taking place in South Africa into the international domain - not only concerning crime and violence, but also the nepotism and corruption of the ANC regime.

"We are not looking for sensation, but rather for a realistic opportunity where the truth may be told - even if it means at our own expense."

We fully support the aims of this most praiseworthy campaign, and hope that the 2010 Soccer World Cup will indeed be moved from crime-ridden and disintegrating South Africa - even if it means relocating the tournament to Morocco. Further news about this campaign will appear in future editions of the SCN, as and when we receive it.

"THE GREAT SOUTH AFRICAN LAND SCANDAL" by Dr. Philip du Toit is a vital piece of work. South Africa can do without many things, but it cannot survive without its farmers. "BETRAYAL IN HIGH PLACES" by James Mackay.

271 pages, some illustrations. Soft-back £5.00 including p.& p. (r.r.p. £10.00)

The compelling story of what really happened in a defeated Japan following the end of World War II. Merchant seaman James Mackay, whilst travelling in the east, started to hear stories of massacres and other atrocities committed by Japanese forces, not just against enemy troops, but against innocent civilian populations. His subsequent investigations revealed reluctance amongst Allied governments to discuss these incidents that seemed to amount almost to a cover-up. Why would the Allies want to overlook the crimes of a former enemy, especially when the leadership of another former enemy was being liquidated at Nuremburg? Using his own research, as well as material prepared by Australian Army war crimes investigator Capt. J.G. Goodwin, Mackay exposes the cover-up and names the guilty. Not only were the Japanese keen to sweep the past under the carpet, but the US government of the time also had its own reasons for preserving the political and industrial elite in Japan. A provocative book, which calls into question the morality of US policy towards Japan after WWII.

Payment can be made by credit or debit card. To order on line, log onto www.paypal.com and enter postmaster@gcartwright.demon.co.uk as payment destination.

S.A.PATRIOT-IN-EXILE

Although we believed that we had secured sufficient financial backing to publish S.A.Patriot-in-Exile again (edition No.36) some months ago, this alas proved to be a "false dawn". Happily, however, it does now appear that sufficient funds will be forthcoming shortly, and as a result the initial stages of production of issue No.36 have now begun.

If you would like to place an advert in this next edition then please let us know as soon as possible. Our Small Ad' rates are still R1.00 or 20p per word (minimum R25.00 or £5.00), and block adverts cost R40.00 or £8.00 per column inch.

Needless to say, however, we are still in need of further financial assistance in order to distribute this issue as soon as it is published, so any further donations for this purpose would still be most appreciated.

All payments and donations should be made payable to "Patriotic Press" and sent to : S.A.Patriot-in-Exile, BCM SAPAT, London WC1N 3XX, UK.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?

No.77 : Mr. JOHN "Mr. PASTRY" HARTNALL of Catford.

Although born at Catford in south-east London, like so many from his background John Hartnall decided to emigrate to southern Africa at an early age. An accountant by profession, he worked successively in Swaziland, Rustenburg and Durban, before moving to the Reef where he was last heard of in the late 1980s. A keen sportsman and a popular and charismatic figure on the Durban social scene, he obtained the nickname of "Mr. Pastry" because of his alleged resemblance to the children's television entertainer of that name from the 1950s. He had a long and very deep relationship with Jackie Weicht from Durban (who gained the inevitable nickname of "Mrs. Pastry"), and it is believed that it was the end of this affair which caused him to move to the Rand. A number of his former friends would be very keen to learn where he is now.

RECOMMENDED WEB-SITE OF THE MONTH

The BSAP Regimental Association runs a highly informative and very well maintained web-site, which can be accessed at :-

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

WALLERGATE I

Sir,

How much I admire your stamina and ability to bounce back time and again after your people have let you down - after the time, cash and basic hard work that you put into the cause.

The New Zealand fiasco is a good example - when someone is making such a long trip surely it's possible to re-arrange one's diary? Few things are that important that they cannot be changed. On my South African and US trips I made sure that I met everyone that I had arranged to - and quite a few more - and with today's mobile 'phones it's easier than ever.

Yours etc.,

T.D., Southampton, U.K.

------------------------

WALLERGATE II

Sir,

You have my sympathies. I know what it's like when someone, who makes a promise to do something, lets you down.

Yours etc.,

Johan Geelvink, Pretoria, Transvaal.

SHOPPER'S GUIDE

Sir,

To someone who for many years has been dismayed by the careless buying habits in supermarkets, a letter which I have just read by Jane Birkby exhorting readers "to shop politically" is welcome support. The majority of our people take items from the shelves and pop them into their baskets without looking to see whence the product is sourced. I believe that until our people gain the habit of choosing their food in support of our own producers (as do our French and German counterparts), firstly from local, then British and Commonwealth sources, we shall never regain the national cohesion in thought and action which is vital to the welfare of a sovereign people.

May I recommend Messrs. Waitrose both for the general quality of its foods and for the fact that it has responded generously to urges to promote British whenever possible. Much of its milk and meat is sourced from its own farms and it stocks an excellent range of British pies and cheeses. Also, South African Golden Delicious and New Zealand Braemar apples are available in season when English are past their best, as is New Zealand chilled lamb, reared on all-year-round grass without the necessity of chemical stimulants. They also stock West Indian bananas of superior flavour; remember the Lome Agreement? It is sad to see only the larger bananas from the huge ranches in Central America on most market and street stalls. Sometimes, in a very homely touch, photographs of fruit-growers pictured on their farms are displayed beside their supplies of apples and pears.

If we could only persuade our people to think politically when buying their weekly supplies of food, the conscious support for our own producers would surely induce a stronger awareness of other aspects of sovereignty.

Yours etc.,

Sheila Donaldson, Bromley, U.K.
